1 About This Service

OntarioLearn (accessible at ontariocurriculum.ca) is an independent educational platform offering interactive lessons and quizzes for students in Grades 1 through 8, aligned with the Ontario elementary school curriculum. It is operated as a private service based in Burlington, Ontario, Canada.

OntarioLearn is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the Government of Ontario, the Ontario Ministry of Education, or any school board. Our content is independently developed and aligned with publicly available Ontario curriculum documents.

2 Children & Parental Consent

In accordance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy guidelines, we require that:

• All accounts are registered by a parent or legal guardian on behalf of the child.
• By creating an account, the parent or guardian confirms they have authority to consent on the child's behalf.
• The email address used for registration should belong to the parent or guardian, not the child.

If we become aware that an account has been created by a child under 13 without parental consent, we will delete that account and all associated data promptly.

3 Information We Collect

Information you provide

• Account name — the name entered at sign-up (we recommend using a parent's name or a nickname, not the child's full name).
• Email address — used for account login only. We recommend using the parent or guardian's email.
• Password — stored in encrypted form; never stored in plain text.
• Grade level — optional; used to personalise the dashboard.

Information generated automatically

• Learning progress — which lessons have been completed and quiz scores. This is stored locally on your device and, if cloud sync is enabled, in our secure database.
• Usage data — we do not currently use analytics tools or advertising trackers. No third-party tracking pixels or cookies are used.

4 How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect solely to:

• Create and manage your account.
• Save and display your child's learning progress across sessions.
• Respond to support requests you send us.
• Send transactional emails (e.g., password reset) — we do not send marketing emails without your explicit opt-in.

We do not use your information for advertising, sell it to third parties, or share it with data brokers.

5 Data Storage & Security

Account information and progress data are currently stored in your browser's local storage on your device. If cloud synchronisation is enabled in a future version, data will be stored on secure servers located in Canada or the United States using industry-standard encryption (TLS in transit, AES-256 at rest).

While we take reasonable precautions, no system is 100% secure. We encourage parents to use a strong, unique password and to log out when using shared devices.

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion at any time (see Section 7).

6 Sharing of Information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We may share limited information only in the following circumstances:

• Service providers: If we use a third-party service (e.g., a payment processor like Stripe, or a cloud database like Supabase), that provider receives only the information necessary to perform their function, and is bound by confidentiality obligations.
• Legal requirements: If required by a valid court order or applicable Canadian law.
• Safety: If we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the safety of a user or the public.

7 Your Rights Under PIPEDA

Under Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), you have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you.
• Correct inaccurate information.
• Withdraw consent and request deletion of your account and all associated data.
• Know how your information is being used.

If you believe your privacy rights have been violated, you may file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca.

Our lessons are supplementary educational resources. They are not a replacement for formal schooling and should not be used to determine a child's official academic standing.

9 Terms of Service

Acceptance

By creating an account or using OntarioLearn, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years of age to create an account. Accounts are created by parents or guardians on behalf of children aged 6–14. By registering, you confirm that you are the parent or legal guardian of the child using the service.

Permitted Use

OntarioLearn is for personal, non-commercial educational use. You may not:

• Copy, reproduce, or redistribute our lesson content without written permission.
• Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or systematically download content from the platform.
• Use the service for any unlawful purpose.
• Share account credentials with others outside your immediate family.

Subscriptions and Payments

OntarioLearn may offer free and paid subscription tiers. Paid subscriptions are billed in Canadian dollars (CAD). Cancellations take effect at the end of the current billing period. Refunds are provided at our discretion in cases of technical failure or accidental charge. All prices are clearly displayed before any purchase.

Intellectual Property

All lesson content, design, and code on OntarioLearn is the intellectual property of OntarioLearn's operator unless otherwise noted. The Ontario curriculum expectations referenced in our content are published by the Ontario Ministry of Education and remain Crown copyright.

Disclaimer of Warranties

OntarioLearn is provided "as is." We make no warranty that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will meet every educational need. We are not responsible for decisions made based on quiz results or lesson outcomes.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, OntarioLearn shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of the service. Our total liability to you shall not exceed the amount paid by you in the 12 months preceding the claim.

Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Ontario.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify registered users by email of any material changes. Continued use of the service after notice constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
